NEW YEAR GREETINGS
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all our members and guests. May 2019 bring you wonderful golfing memories filled with triumphs, new long-lasting relationships and many incredible shots.
Humewood has been abuzz with visitors enjoying our Links course. They have enjoyed it so much that we have seen many of them return to test their skills again. At the same time, we welcome back all members that have been away over the festive season and hope that you managed a few rounds whilst away. We would love to hear some tails of your fairway journeys.
The Humewood Golf Club and its members thank Barneys Tavern for their sponsorship and support over the Festive season.
Please support Craig if you don't feel like cooking or need to quench your thirst. The Willow Road and Beachfront branch are open every day.
HIS STROKES, HER STROKES...
With the new handicapping system in place, the strokes at Humewood needed to incorporate the fact that ladies will now be playing off the same pars as the men. The strokes would then give shorter hitters a chance to score more points on longer holes e.g. Par 5’s.
With the new strokes in play for 3 months now, it was evident that they weren’t correct for the male golfer and change was needed. So, without further delay, SAGA have agreed for us to separate the ladies and men’s strokes, the men reverting to previous strokes and the ladies keeping the new strokes.
This change is effective immediate and is important for all golfers to take note of when playing the course in future.
NEW YEAR, NEW RULES!
With the 1st January 2019 behind us, the new year has ushered in the new rule changes. Here is a link to a video you need to watch, it could help you save some shots on the course the next time you play.
THE NEW TORO HYBRID GREENS MOWER IS HERE!
Our long-anticipated wait is over. The new Toro Hybrid greens mower has finally arrived, and we are very excited to see the results that this mower will give us. Shaun and Stephen will take a couple of days to setup the machine and make sure all staff that will be using the machine, are well trained before they take it onto the course.<?p>
The beauty of this machine is that it will cut the greens with more precision, save us a lot on fuel and reduce cutting time. This will also allow us to use the staff more effectively elsewhere on the course. The hybrid technology means no hydraulics and therefore no leaks onto our greens. This machine has some serious technology and is much more maintenance friendly.
FROM THE COURSE....
The golf course has been battered by warm, windy weather, creating tremendous strain on the greens. We have therefore resorted to only a single cutting of the greens daily. This will ensure that the greens will run true but slightly on the slow side. This will be the norm until rain arrives or cooler temperatures return.
Please also be aware of nesting birds. We have tried to mark all areas but if you encounter one not marked, please inform us so that we can protect you and them.
